May 2025 review

Last modified June 2, 2025 by jarjar

A little month, because the summer soccer season has started! I have much less time to play. On the other hand, I have the honor of coaching one of the most dynamic women's teams I've ever had the chance to coach in my career! 15 respectful young women, fully invested in their sport and above all so grateful! It's super motivating to work with them!

It is also the month of announcements of the nominees for the prestigious award Game of the Year 2025 =)

CRUSHS

Civolution : THE favorite of the month.
A second game, for which I took the time to read the rules carefully and assimilate them. It really changes my appreciation of the game: I now classify it as a masterpiece! Magnificent, too, with so much choice!

Pirates of Maracaibo : a two-player game. I love this concept where the cards form the game board, which changes dynamically. The game plays quite quickly while offering good depth.

Age of Steam : an old game from 2002 that recently underwent a facelift. You either love the new design or you hate it. Personally, I like the visual refinement. This game has aged well: not too many rules, and still a delightful experience, with lots of interactions (argh, that was my cube!).

THE MENTIONS

Toy Battle : Pleasantly surprised by this super simple game that can be played in less than ten minutes! A childish theme, yes, but still fun for adults. Offering good choices and several cards. A very cute game!

Looot : a Spiel 2025 nominee. A tile-placement game that offers excellent puzzle play, well thought out, fast-paced, and with good interaction. Effective and fun! We like it here!

TALL GAMES PLAYED

26 games!
