Deep Regrets (2025) – Let’s open the box!

Last modified June 12, 2025 by jarjar

Freshly arrived on our shelves here in Quebec, a first “Let’s open the box” type article.

Overview
Deep Regrets is a fishing game where you'll pull increasingly horrifying things from the depths of the ocean. Decide what to eat, what to sell, what to hang on the wall, and how much regret you're willing to bear. You'll roll dice at the start of each turn to determine your strength, tied to the number of actions you can take that turn, and then decide whether to stay at sea or return to port to sell fish, buy supplies, and replenish your energy.

Remarks
A game I bought thanks to the many photos that have been circulating on social media lately, for its really well-done look and its Lovecraftian theme of mysterious fishing. I really hadn't taken the time to read about the game's mechanics before buying it, so it was a very impulsive purchase... again! =)

I haven't had a chance to try it, other than reading the rules and simulating a few rounds with 2 players. It still seems like fun to me: another card collecting game, but where the cards won't necessarily stay on your board, because you'll eat some, sell some, and hang others. Luck seems to be quite present with dice rolls and risk-taking fishing. Several comments say the game would be long. I'll check that out soon, if time permits 😉 I have the feeling Trump has more time available than me these days-here!
