August 2025 review

Last modified September 4, 2025 by Jarjar

The last month of summer is coming to an end, with not many new games played this month. With the soccer season now over, our weekly game sessions should resume shortly 😉

FEATURED

The island of spoken words, the surprise of the month, that my friend JP introduced us to! Everyone loves it and wants to play it again and again. Another word game but with this fun little twist where words are used to guide us on a map in search of treasures. But watch out for traps and curses! A great family success!

Arcs, second month in a row as a favorite! It's a pleasure to play this game, really! I'm even planning to join the league (ROMP). The more you play it, the more you discover all the subtleties and the better you become! Can't wait to try the campaign! My full review here

Vantage is also a favoriter for a second month in a row! The author has had quite the imagination! Each game reveals its share of surprises and unique details. It's not a complex game, but it's definitely a lot of fun to explore!

THE MENTIONS

Everdell Duo, a great discovery, this two-player version of a very good game! This version is quick to install and play, while offering some interesting little original touches. We really liked it here! My full review of the game here

Pergola, a lot of material in this game! A very zen and relaxing game in the vein of Meadow. For those who don't want to rack their brains too much and let their creativity run wild, a great discovery!

Wild Tiled West, bought at half price, I was very surprised by this one, having no expectations (the box actually intrigued me =)). Yes, there are similarities with Planet Unknown because of the polyominoes, but other than that the rest is very different and very fun! Quality material and expect to shoot the gun =)

ALL GAMES PLAYED

38 games this month!

  1. I agree with you that Arcs is a game that takes a bit of practice before it really blossoms. It's in the mold of Pax Pamir in that respect. I sold it reluctantly because no one I knew liked it... I consider it a great game and I'd be willing to play it again anytime! Just saying...

As for Vantage, I personally found it lacking direction. Exploring for the sake of exploring, taking actions with completely unknown outcomes, doesn't excite me. As long as I'm at it, I'll play open-world games on my PS5.

Everdell Duo was a hit here too. Its simplicity makes it a very good game. I didn't really like its big brother, which I found a bit bland and rehashed (I haven't tried the expansions), but I like this duel version!
