I've been listening to the podcast for some time now. ROMP, dedicated to Leder Games games. They announced the holding of a first tournament for Arcs, virtually. I rarely participate in tournaments. Yes, I like to kick ass when I play, but I'm not necessarily looking for confrontation. I play mainly for fun, to have a good time with friends or family, and to disconnect from everyday life. I'm far from looking for the pressure of performance.
But this tournament intrigues me, … I'm curious to see how it's all structured, and since I like this game, I decide to give it a go!
And hey, I want to try a new experience with you: I'm going to keep a live journal of this adventure. So this article will be updated as I progress in this tournament (it may be short-lived :)). I invite you to bookmark this article. Or you can use the bookmark system of this blog by clicking on this button:
I really don't have high expectations, as I still consider myself a beginner with this game, and I'll be competing against players who are more hardcore and invested than me, so wish me luck 😉
HOW THE TOURNAMENT WORKS
The tournament begins with a qualifying phase to select 64 participants. Qualifying is simple: simply win at least one game, playing with the base game and the small Leaders and Lore expansion. Each player can try their luck as many times as they like. A single victory is enough to advance to the next stage. This qualifying phase is expected to last approximately one month.
The next step will require playing a full campaign with the Blighted Reach expansion, which is three consecutive games, a good investment of time!
The 64 qualifiers will participate in the first round. There will be 16 Blighted Reach matches to determine 16 winners, who will advance to the next round, with four matches, followed by a final.
Note : once qualified, it is no longer necessary to maintain your Patreon subscription to continue in the tournament.

Arcs, the blighted reach Tournament - Day 1
So I decided to join this tournament, for pure pleasure, in order to be able to interact with this community and above all to take advantage of it to deepen my knowledge of this game. I joined the Patreon of the podcast which gives access to this tournament.

Level Secret Order of their Patreon at CAD 14,50/month allows access to the channel #qualifier-games on their server Discord, where you can find discussions on organized games, which will be played on TTS (TableTop Simulator) or TTPG (TableTop Playground).
The tables are full at the moment, I'm putting myself on the waiting list for the one on Sunday, September 8th at 22:00 PM UTC (18:00 PM Eastern Time).

REPORT – PART ONE
Phew, I've got crusts to eat! We're up against players who play regularly. And playing with 4 players is another game. Especially when you have hands with only 2 colors, it's not easy to manage. Initiative makes a big difference too, and it's really not easy to get it without making sacrifices!
I made several mistakes: I attacked cities too quickly, and the outrage was too quick, causing me to lose valuable cards. I didn't use the preludes enough. And during a final move, I was looking for combat by moving several ships in the hope of getting some points on the Triumph ambition, but the targeted player fled with his entire fleet!
At the start of Chapter 4, it was the player in third position, although quite far behind, who won the game by obtaining 2 ambitions with her city bonuses!
But the good side of this first experience is that I learned... by watching myself being destroyed!
I'll probably try a second round of qualifying, but I doubt I'll succeed: I need more practice!

After a night of reflection, I know I can do better! I'm signing up for two tables: the one next Friday evening at 2:19 p.m. and the one on Saturday at 00:19 p.m. I'm not sure if it will work with the weekend activities, which are still uncertain for now. To be continued!
Now we can follow the results, and on my suggestion, they added the duration of the games =). The document is accessible here.

Unfortunately I was unable to join the game on Saturday night.
Tonight, there were only two of us, and the other would have preferred a three-way game. So we canceled the game. I'll have to get back on track.

The final round of qualifying matches has just been announced! I've booked 3 slots, hoping to be able to get free for one of the 3: Sunday the 28th at 3:00 PM, Wednesday the 1st of October at 15:00 PM, and Friday the 19rd of October at 18:00 PM. I'll try to play another solo game between now and then.

As I was the only player available today, I automatically received my spot in the first elimination round. Although I'm happy to be able to continue the adventure, I would have liked to earn it with a real victory.
Wednesday October 1
Now we have to state our availability for the first round. 8-hour blocks, phew, 8 hours online, that's intense and I'm less interested. I'm thinking about it and seeing if it's possible to fit it into a weekend schedule.
Dimanche octobre 5
I've announced my retirement: I can't spare 8 hours online for a game during the October weekend, which is already busy with family and friends activities, mountain biking, and the resumption of soccer. I really enjoyed my short experience in the adventure, which pushed me to play more and try out different strategies. I'm a little more comfortable with the game now 😉
