This week on my table (September 11-17, 2025)

The Fate of the Community (3 parts)

A solo game, with randomly drawn objectives. Everything came down to the last roll of the dice, during the final hunt. I had to roll 4 or fewer hope losses on the 7 dice to get through. Unfortunately, I rolled 5 and the ring wasn't destroyed. Too bad for the outcome of the game, but it's always a great thrill to drop the dice in the tower to determine the fate of the community!

Then I tried the BGA version twice with my friend Jason. I always have reservations about electronic versions of games, even though I know BGA does things well. Unfortunately, the version available on the website only allows you to play with the four basic objectives. Despite this drawback, it was a great experience, smoother than I expected. The first game, which was quick, cruelly reminded us not to leave havens unguarded. We died mercilessly. The second game was more representative of our abilities, and we won thanks in part to lucky dice rolls. Almost all the hunt dice came up blank. I obviously prefer the physical version of the game, but if you're having a bad day, BGA can be a good substitute.

Raising Robots (part one)

Another two-player game, following its rediscovery (or should I say resurrection) from last week. A blitz game that lasted 45 minutes! It was short but very enjoyable. I'm not sure it deserves to be released several times a month, but a few times a year is a respectable goal.

Conservas (one part)

A small part of this sardine scenario game that can only be played solo. A few weeks ago, I had already played the first one 7 times (in 4 days!) without managing to solve it. So I decided to put it aside for a while, just to mature a little and refine my strategy. I don't really know what happened since then, but I finally won against scenario #1 on my first new attempt! So I'll get to work on the second scenario soon.

Dominion (3 parts)

Dominion is the game I've played the most (in terms of number of games) in the last year. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that it regularly appears in my weekly reports. Normally, we play the same kingdom 3 times, just to get to know it and give ourselves the opportunity to try different angles of attack. We like to add up our 3 games to determine the winner of the "series."

The randomly selected kingdom this week was one of abundance, with platinum and settlements. We also had access to chests and favors to enhance our turns with actions and our purchases with additional currency. Needless to say, the games were sharp and incisive, with the winners managing to quickly claim the treasure cards.

Zenith (one part)

Another couples game that comes out every week, due to the combination of setup-play-cleanup that is done in a flash (30-40 minutes). Perfect while waiting for chicken wings to cook in the oven!

We are well aware that this is a game where tactics are much more important than strategy, and that's perfectly fine! It takes some time!

Review of

No new features this week, for a total of 9 games! No big games either: we stayed in our slippers. I have to say that with the super mild weather, nothing encouraged me to stay inside! We'll see how our gaming habits change when the grayness of autumn sets in...

  1. – I'm trying Community Destiny tonight, can't wait!
    – I played Raising Robots recently too, there's something about it that makes me not want to play it again! Very pretty and cute, but is it really fun?
    – Conservas, on my list of games to try!
    – Dominion, sold several years ago!

  2. We played Dominion again not too long ago and I think it has aged very well. The granddaddy of deckbuilding still has its place!
