January 2026 report

Last modified February 3, 2026 by Jarjar

A few new things this month, nothing groundbreaking. So I have a shorter list this month. The ski season is in full swing here; we often combine skiing and board games on Saturdays =)

La Crête – Mont Sainte-Anne, Quebec

CRUSHS

HeatNot exactly new, but it had been a good year since we last played it, to play a season. It's so much fun choosing your car's upgrades and seeing their impact on the game. It's a fast-paced, tense game with great interaction and often heart-wrenching choices. Races are often incredibly close, with a single maneuver on a corner coming up. There's no room for error. The best racing game on the market in my opinion!

LeadersTruly a beautiful production and a chess-style game, but very refreshing, since you choose your characters as the game progresses. Highly tactical with impressive richness and depth despite its simple rules. Offers short, addictive games that leave you wanting more! A very pleasant surprise!

THE MENTIONS

DistilledAnother old game I recently discovered with my son, and we found it quite enjoyable. My son loves making drinks, so he was eager to try it! Superb quality components; yes, there's an element of luck involved when removing cards during the brewing process, but certain powers help mitigate that. A magnificent production! Fun gameplay.

EmblemsA fun card game that reminded me of Oriflammes. You don't necessarily play to win, but rather to have fun. Beware, it's not for the faint of heart—there are some nasty tricks! It plays quickly.

DewanHaving only tried it on BGA, I found this area control game quite enjoyable, fluid, and satisfying, especially when you manage to find a story tile that already contains almost everything you need. I'm thinking of buying it because it might well be released here.

ALL GAMES PLAYED

38 games this month.
