Overview
Sweet Lands is a board game for experienced gamers where you build a thriving candy kingdom to succeed King Sweet Syrup, who fell ill after his sugar overindulgence. It's a challenging game that blends hand management, worker placement, and territory development with 14 asymmetrical characters and exceptional components (200+ cards, 449 wooden tokens).
My comments
I had the chance to play a game a few months ago with my friend Louis's copy, which he received through the Kickstarter campaign (6,578 backers raised $685,000 USD). I really enjoyed that first game, even though we got completely thrashed. I was hooked and couldn't wait to play it again. I'd been eyeing it in stores, but its exorbitant price ($200 CAD) held me back. I watched a few games on BGG, including a solo one that convinced me to buy it, after seeing a discount on the last two copies available, presumably in Quebec, at the Griffon store in Sherbrooke, for $179,99.
This game is a contender for my Game of the Year 2025. I'll be writing a full article about it soon. In the meantime, here are some photos of the box opening. It's the first time I've seen decoration on the sheets of unpunched tiles; it almost makes you want to keep them! =)
