Kingdom Legacy: Feudal Kingdom (2024) – build a kingdom, one card at a time

Last modified July 27, 2026 by Jarjar

An excellent solo game that I discovered earlier this year and revisited during my vacation, playing on the plane and in the hotel, to delve even deeper into it. I just had to write an article about it =)

Overview
Kingdom Legacy: Feudal Kingdom is a solo legacy card game in which you develop your own medieval kingdom over the course of a campaign. Each round begins with the revelation of four cards. You explore new territories, construct buildings, manage your resources, and make decisions that permanently alter your game by adding, removing, or transforming cards. Each of your choices influences the evolution of your kingdom and gradually unlocks new mechanics, challenges, and surprises.

My comments
It's absolutely ingenious and incredibly fun, a pure delight! Kingdom Legacy is one of those true gaming gems. It's the kind of game whose box didn't appeal to me at all, but which hides remarkably well-designed gameplay.

This is a solo legacy-style game (it's certainly playable in two-player co-op as well), where you have to stick stickers on cards, check boxes, and even destroy some cards. Personally, I chose the "eco-friendly" option without tearing anything, as shown in the photo above: I used card sleeves to stick the stickers on and write directly on them. This way, I didn't alter the original components (Thanks, Chuck!). It even allowed me to completely reset the game so I could play it a second time… after a rather ordinary first attempt!

We are revisiting the concept of Palm islandBut by taking it much further. The rounds are relatively quick, although their duration increases slightly as the game progresses since new cards are added… while others are removed. Excellent balancing has been done.

It's not a strategy game, but it constantly requires us to make decisions: which cards to upgrade, which objectives to advance, or which opportunities to prioritize. These choices are simple to understand, but not always obvious.

The official website is also very useful for obtaining details on certain cards, whose effects are not always perfectly clear at first glance.

The game also holds some pleasant surprises. Several cards introduce small mechanics or truly fun twists that constantly renew the experience.

The illustrations were generated using artificial intelligence. Some are superb, while others are a bit more debatable, but overall they remain consistent.

It's one of the best single-player games I've ever played. It ticks all the boxes: quick to install, extremely fun, full of heart-wrenching decisions, and offering just the right amount of planning to keep you coming back for more.

Finally, each box has a unique code. At the end of your adventure, you can save your score on the official website and compare it to those of players worldwide. Unfortunately, the top players have achieved unrealistic scores.

There's no single, strict official order, which I find strange and confusing; I would have preferred something clearer. It's even a topic of active debate on BoardGameGeek, where several players are still asking the question after having bought everything.

Here's the one I use:
???? Map 136 → ⚔️ Adventures → 🃏 Map 137 → 💰 Merchants → 🃏 Map 138 → 🗺️ Distant Lands
After this sequence, I think I'll start a new kingdom to try out the other expansions.

For the Pillars of the Kingdom (Foundations) expansion, the author recommends this one:

While it's possible and permissible to play all the expansions with the same kingdom, giving you six foundations, these foundations introduce broader themes that will compete with each other. It will be difficult to fully develop any one of these themes. Therefore, even though it's possible, and many players have enjoyed playing all the expansions, we recommend playing one or two expansions with one kingdom and letting another kingdom play the last one. One of the goals of this expansion is also to differentiate the kingdoms due to the large number of available permutations.

MY IMPRESSIONS
I loved :
>> Very reasonable price for the fun/$ ratio
>> The mechanics are super fun; you want to play game after game to discover new cards.
>> Fast-paced matches, with often heart-wrenching decisions
>> Impressive ramp-up and lots of micro-optimization
>> The base game alone provides a good 6 hours of fun

I liked less :
>> Some maps are confusing and require you to go online to understand them properly
The recommended order for playing the expansions is very ambiguous! The game is superb, but this expansion system deserves a logical and predetermined order.
>> A story closely tied to the mechanics would have fit well in this kind of game

Kingdom Legacy appeals to players with its well-oiled mechanics, its engaging sense of progression and its rewarding micro-optimization; you play game after game and you want to come back to it with great pleasure.

FUN FACTOR 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

  1. Thank you so much! That really means a lot coming from the designer of the game. Kingdom Legacy has been such a memorable experience for me, and I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of the expansions.
